Yes deep water is the most appropriate title for the story because the story reveals how the narrator decides to learn swimming at the YMCA swimming pool. He had a fear for water when he was three or four years old , he went to the California beach along with his father where he was knocked down and swept away by the waves. On another day he was tossed by a bully into the deeper end of the pool and he nearly drowned. He began to avoid water bodies which cost him his boating fishing and swimming. Finally at the end he engaged an instructor who helped him to swim and finally he overcomed his fears
