By this incident, we come to know that Douglas was very close to his mother as every child his. That he as a child confides his fears in his mother who would help him out with it. When he was hit by the terrifying drowning situation, he called for his mother as she was the first one he knew could be trusted and would never deny helping him. Even if the whole world bails, he knew, his mother would rescue him. His love and trust for his mother was depicted as she was the first one he attempted to call for help when he was terror stricken.
