Here in fig a 6 ohm and 2 ohm are in parallel so
1/R = 1/6 + 1/2
R =1.5 ohm
The circuit becomes like in figure b.
Series combination of 1.5 and 1.5 ohm  i,e, (1.5 + 1.5 = 3 ohm) are in parallel with 3 ohm resistor.
So 1/Req = 1/3 +1/3
Req = 1.5 ohm
From formula I = V/R = 9/15 = 6 A
