wht thoughts  of roosevelt  deeply  imparted  douglas ??  and hw the thoughts  apply on his own  life ???

Roosevelt had said, "All we have to fear is fear itself". These words of his influenced Douglas deeply. He interpreted it to mean that terror resides only in the resistance to death, not in death itself. He used these words to conquer his fear of water, which had plagued him ever since he almost drowned as a young boy. To conquer his fear, he hired a trainer and learnt to swim after spending years being to terrified even to go near water. His greatest achievement was when he swam back and forth across the Warm Lake. As he shouted with joy and his voice echoed on Gilbert Peak, he knew that he had conquered his fear once and for all.
