Why did the people struggling for democracy demand UAF? Support your answer giving examples.

Universal Adult Franchise is an essential component of a democracy. Without UAF, a democracy is not complete as certain sections of the population are then not allowed to vote. Hence, they cannot elect their representatives or have their voices heard in the government. Hence, to ensure that their voices matter and that governments protect their rights and interests, people struggling for democracy demand UAF. Two examples of such demand are

1. The demand for the expansion of franchise from the landed classes to the working class in Britain during the 19th century.
2. The demand for the expansion of franchise to women in Britain in the early 20th century.
