A willpower as strong as a rock, 16-year-old Raghav Chandak from Kolkata has become an inspiration for each and every student in the country. Raghav scored a whooping 95.8 percent in the ICSE board exams 2016, declaring that nothing could get him down.
“My cousin who studies in the same class supplied all the notes to me”, says the 16-year-old boy. After being diagnosed with acute lymphoblastic leukaemia (ALL) in April, last year, Raghav was able to attend classes for only about two months. “He was in hospital for one-and-a-half months at a stretch. And then he had to go for about seven days each month to the hospital for chemotherapy which weakened his immune system but not the spirit to fight,” his proud father Manoj Chandak said.
The whole school stood by his side so much so that he was even asked to call up his teachers directly for help. Even while going through the painful chemotherapy sessions, class notes were arranged for him. A special bench was laid out in the classroom for him whenever he went to attend any lecture as there was a fear of infection spreading on to other students.
“I would not have been able to do this without everyone’s support – my parents, teachers, friends, cousin and our family doctor,” the teenager said. Raghav who is a football fan, aspires to join one of the IITs.
