Chapter 6 – Application of Derivatives

This is bit tricky chapter, though few sections here are very easy and scoring (Tangents and Normals to Curves and Approximations Using Differentials). This chapter has a weightage of about 12 marks. Observing previous years question papers, it has been noted that one question of 6 marks comes from the topic “Application of Maxima Minima”.

Important Topics:
1. Rate of Change of Quantities
2. Increasing and Decreasing Functions
3. Tangents and Normals to Curves
4. First and Second Derivative Tests for Finding Points of Local Maxima and Minima

MERITNATION TIPS:
a) Students need to read the question properly, sometimes the questions asked in indirect way.
b) Practise as many questions as possible.
c) Do previous years papers.

Chapter 7 – Integrals

This is the lengthiest and the most scoring chapter in all. All of the sections are important, since one exercise is base for the other. One cannot skip even a small topic.

Important Topics:
1. Integration by the Method of Substitution
2. Integration by the Method of Partial Fractions
3. Integration by Parts
4. Definite Integral as Limit of a Sum
5. Properties of Definite Integrals

MERITNATION TIPS:
a) One question from definite integrals is assured in the examination, this whole chapter can inch up your marks by very good amount, so you are advised to practise extensively.
b) Practice a variety of questions from different topics to gain speed.
c) Attempt previous years’ question papers, sample papers and other Model test papers properly within a time frame to help you manage your time during the exam.

Chapter 8 – Application of Integrals

This chapter is based on integral formulas. So learn the formulas which are widely used in this chapter.

Important Topics:
1. Area under Simple Curves
2. Area Bounded by a Curve and a Line
