     b) Law of constant proportions
2. Dalton’s Atomic Theory
3. Symbols of atoms of different elements
4. Atomic mass
5. Types of molecules
     a) Molecules of elements
     b) Molecules of compounds
6. Ions
7. Rules for writing chemical formulae
8. Calculation of molecular mass
9. Mole concept

Method for Quick Understanding:

Chapter 11 – Work and Energy

Important Topics:
1. Work
2. Potential Energy
3. Kinetic Energy
4. Power and Commercial Units

Method for Quick Understanding:
1. We require energy to do our daily activities, or work but according to science, work is defined in quite a different manner. Here, work is defined as product of force and displacement or it is said to be done when an object is displaced in the direction of applied force.
2. An object which is capable of doing work posses energy. The energy possessed by an object due to its motion is kinetic energy. The energy possessed by an object due to its position is known as potential energy. The sum of kinetic and potential energy is known as mechanical energy.
3. According to law of conservation of energy, energy is always transferred from one form to another and is always same before and after transformation. Power is the rate of doing work.

MERITNATION TIPS:
a) All the topics are very much connected to our day-to-day life. Observe different activities going around you and try to calculate the nature of work done.
b) Note down the energy transformations taking place. Numericals from the topics: kinetic energy , potential energy, power, work done are frequently asked.
c) Conversion and calculation of commercial unit and electricity bill evaluation question are also asked.
d) Check your monthly electricity units with help of your parents, estimate the bill and compare with original electricity bill. This will give you more clear idea of commercial units and usage.

Chapter 12 – Sound

Important Topics:
1. Production and Propagation of Sound
2. Sound Waves & its Characteristics
3. Reflection of Sound
4. Sonar and other Applications of Sound
5. Structure of Human Ear

Method for Quick Understanding:
1. Sound is produced due to vibration of object or particles in the medium. It travels as longitudinal waves as a disturbance through a medium without the actual movement of the particles in the medium.
2. Sound waves follow the laws of reflection. Sound waves are associated with characteristics like wavelength, frequency and time period. quality of sound, pitch and loudness etc., depends on the same characteristics.
3. The audible range of sound for human is 20 Hz – 20 KHZ. The sound waves with frequency higher than audible range is ultrasonic and lower than audible range is infrasonic.
4. Sonar is used to determine the depth of sea and sea hill etc.

MERITNATION TIPS:
a) The important topics mentioned above require intensive reading and conceptual understanding.
b) Try to observe the vibrations in a tuning fork and dip it in the water. Try producing sound by different methods like scratching, plucking rubbing, shaking etc.
c) Observe different musical instrument and list down the methods by which sound is produced by them.
d) Try to observe the echos in an empty room or hall with different sounds.
e) Practise numericals from the topic- sound wave characteristics and sonar.
