Devise short term goals and stick to them!

So, it is that time of the year when you are raring to make a go at devising a plan of action towards cracking the big IIT-JEE entrance exam. The enthusiasm with which plans are made quickly has to be properly proportioned and rationed out in a balanced manner throughout the preparation period.

We have noticed that aspirants, at the beginning of the year, spend days together in trying to work out fantastically unrealistic time tables. By unrealistic and fantastic we mean the process of an unstructured, ill planned system of allotting time to areas that don’t really need that excessive amount of attention. For example, you allot your favourite chapter in physics an indecent amount of time instead of concentrating your energies on the chapter you are weak in.

  • The most important thing that you have to keep in mind is that you have to do very well in your class XII Board exams.
  • Remember that if your basics are in order then half your work is done. Working up on your basic knowledge support will help you do well not only in the board exams but also will help you collect all the marks that the easier sections in the IITJEE.
  • Try to avoid creating hype around a certain topic in your mind only because everyone else says so. Try to read the chapter before dismissing it. You may be able to grasp the concept earlier than your think!
  • Try to set achievable quarterly targets for yourself. Learn to identify what time of the day works for you and try to tackle the more difficult areas of the subject you have taken up during that time.
  • In the beginning, take breaks after every 2 hours and try not to focus only on one subject in a day. Try to read up related topics in other subjects too.
  • Make it a point to revise or go through everything you read and learnt during your study hours.
  • Make room for activities that bust the stress that tries to creep up around you.
  • Try to find a study partner and discuss problems regarding the subject with them. Remember, group studying will always help you understand a concept better than studying alone, hidden in a corner.

Remember, you can fool everybody except yourself. Redouble your efforts the next day if you think you aren’t satisfied with the day’s work.
