Dear students,
On behalf of everyone here at Meritnation, I hope that you will have a successful year ahead.
The last few years have seen a technological revolution – changing the way we communicate, the way we voice our opinions, the way we buy things and most importantly the way we approach our education and studies. We are excited to be a part of this revolution. In a span of four odd years, Meritnation has become a 6 million-member strong family with students from India, US, UK, UAE, Singapore, Saudi Arabia and many more countries.
I am extremely excited about the possibilities that lay ahead of us. I am certain that how we study is going to change in the future in ways we can barely imagine today. Technology will ensure that we get to study precisely what we need to study, when we need to study and how we need to study. A lot of it will happen with a click of the mouse. A lot of it will happen within the comfort of your home. I have always believed that a class full of students is not one unit with one problem and one solution. We are all different. So it’s only natural that we all study differently. At MeritNation, we will work extra hard to make that happen so that you make the best use of your time in the best possible manner and in the process, we will do our small bit to help you claim a wonderful future for yourself.
It is becoming a fast-paced world. To get ahead and to be successful, you will have to adapt to this pace and to the changes happening around you. You have a tough job and a hectic routine. Most of the grown ups I know would shudder at the thought of handling the hectic school-homework-extracurricular routine alongside the societal and familial demands that this ever-changing world places on you. They would not have lasted a day!
In such a scenario, you will have to proactively learn to focus and get the best out of the limited time, without burning out. How will you achieve this? Understand the importance and paucity of time. Respect the time that you have at your disposal. With so much of information overload, it is very important for you as students to learn how to concentrate and shut out distractions. This ability to ‘focus’ is the secret element to success that often gets ignored. Being able to concentrate as you need to, when you want to, on what you choose to – using the smart learning tools that are available to you – is the mantra for striking the right balance between studies and friends in 2014.
Do not spread yourself too thin over multiple topics. Know yourself. Know your strengths. Identify the areas that you need to improve upon and focus on those. This will help you leverage the time that is available to you in the most efficient manner. So, when you have to prepare for an upcoming test at school, instead of going over every chapter one after the other and spending an almost equal amount of time on all the topics, pick out the problem areas first and focus on those. It sounds simple, but trust me, if done in a systematic manner, it will make a world of difference to your preparation.
We are living in competitive times. We cannot change that. Can we? However, it is important to understand the difference between healthy competition and mindless obsession. Do not fall into the trap. Be true to who you are, and continue to learn with all your might. At the end of the day, ‘doing your best’ is what is going to count.
The year gone by has been a busy yet extremely satisfying one for us. We worked to fulfill the promises made at the beginning of 2013. We worked towards giving you a much superior experience on the site. We added study resources for various state boards like Karnataka, Maharashtra, Tamil Nadu and Kerala. We also got lots of requests from our students, such as launching full screen study material, offering free daily practice questions etc. We have diligently worked towards making these available to you. Keep these suggestions coming. They help us help you better! The most exciting event for us this year was the launch of our very first mobile app that lets you get the best of Meritnation on the go! The apps – for Android and iOS have been very well received. Thank you for such an overwhelming response. We are further working on adding more features to these apps.
We have plenty of big surprises for you in 2014. After months of painstaking research in the areas of user behavior and content efficacy in the context of our junior members, we are all set to launch our all-new junior website in a couple of months. We will also continue to add new videos, animations and activities for you to learn better. In the coming months, your favourite “Ask & Answer” section will get a makeover as well.
In the end I’d like to thank you for partnering in our incredible journey. Another new year full of possibilities has begun. With the final exams approaching, it’s time for us to get back to work!
