an acidified k2cr2o7  paper turns green on being exposed to so2. why

Dear Student,

When SO2 is exposed to acidified potassium dichromate paper, the paper turns green. The green colour is due to formation of Cr2(SO4)3 i.e. chromic sulphate. 3SO2 + K2Cr2O7 + H2SO4  K2SO4 + Cr2(SO4)3 + H2O
