"and both that morning equally lay

in leaves no step had trodded black."

what does Frost mean by this?what is the inner meaning of this line?

pls tell me.

In the poem The Road Not Taken, both the roads look very fresh and green the morning the poet takes a choice. However, one of these roads has always been travelled on while nobody has ever ventured into taking the other road.

The lines suggest dilemmas that one faces in life. One has to make a choice from the given alternatives. Though the choice we make influences rest of our life, we cannot foresee the outcome of the choices made.
