Battle of plassey and buxar compare 3 system of revenue

The three systems of revenue in British India were

1. Permanent Settlements or Zamindari system: This system was implemented in Bengal, Bihar and Orissa. Under this system, land was owned by zamindars who extracted revenue from tenant farmers. The revenue was then transferred to the government according to the stipulated rate. Any excess revenue was retained by the zamindar.

2. Ryotwari sytem: This system was in place in Madras and Bombay presidencies. Under this system, individual peasants, known as ryots, owned the land they farmed and paid the required revenue to the government directly.

3. Mahalwari system: This system was prevalent in Punjab and United Provinces. Under this system, the village was regarded as the unit of revenue. While individual peasants owned land, the village as a whole was responsible for paying the revenue.
