The time is now to save these magnificent cats, before they vanish from the earth forever. There is little time left to preserve these animals, immediate action is required. The latest predictions state that tigers will be extinct in the wild by the year 2015. That is less than 12 short years from now. That’s less then 14 years to save a creature that has been around far longer then ourselves.
I cannot imagine, nor would I wish to live in a world without tigers ... without these magnificent creatures in our forests living free – without captive populations carrying on the gene pool. The power and beauty of these animals is indisputable.
Tigers are an integral part of the ecosystem, and a major link in the food chain. Tigers have been bestowed magical and supernatural properties by many societies, and have also been revered as gods. All living creatures of mother earth depend on one another for survival. We as human beings are brothers and sisters to every living being, from the plants to the animals to each other.
Crimes like these - the killing of tigers - must be stopped - PERIOD. They are often killed in the most barbaric, the most unbelievably cruel ways. I ask you the reader - if learning of things like this moves you at all, then take that energy and do what you can to stop the killing of these magnificent animals. Write to your government, write to the governments of tiger countries and urge them to protect tigers.
Penalties for killing tigers, and other protected wildlife need to be strongly enforced - and strong enough as to be a complete deterrent to the poaching of tigers, and also deter those who profit from such killing - such greed.
Extremist groups would ban all exotic animals from captivity because of small numbers of individuals that mistreat their animals, and unfortunately the whole zoo "industry" and caring private owners get painted with the same brush. The vast majority of zoos, big and small, treat their animals well, feed them well and give them proper environmental enrichment. The numbers of bad homes are small, but they do exist.
"The Animal Rights Organizations should make sure they target only the bad homes and leave those providing a good, happy and healthy home for animals alone"They don't realize that banning all exotics from captivity could spell the end for many species of animals. Species whose numbers in the wild are extremely low, such as the Clouded Leopard, Siberian tiger, South China tiger and so forth.
"I firmly believe zoos and private ownership by responsible caring individuals could well be the last foothold on survival for tigers. "Zoos, sanctuaries and responsible, knowledgeable and caring private owners are rapidly becoming the last havens to preserve ever dwindling species of animals. These places may well, in the not so far future, hold the last remaining tigers – gems for the future who should be nurtured and protected.
Caring for a tiger is an immense responsibility. Not just to the single tiger in your care, but to his or her species, and all tigers. Simply to own a tiger and keep him or her in your backyard as a pet is not enough, nor is it acceptable to keep this animal to yourself. You, the owner, owe it to all tigers - wild and held in captivity - and to the future generations of these animals to educate the public about tigers - and help to change people's opinions about wildlife preservation.
Education is key to developing sensitivity and awareness to our environment. Our children hold the hope for the future of the tiger. Heightened awareness of environmental issues will help assure our children grow up to respect and care for our global environment.

Tiger is a National animal of India. It has been declared as the national animal of country because of its royal look. It is very famous and strong animal known for its grace, power and agility. It is an Asiatic carnivorous animal zoologically named as Panthera tigris. There are various species and subspecies of the tigers are found all over the world. Tiger is an endangered species of the animal however few are left (according to the world tiger census) all over the world which we have to conserve in any way in order to save their life on the earth. Government of India has run a program named ?Project Tiger? in April 1973 in order to maintain the position of continuously decreasing tiger population in India. It is the matter of happiness that because of the Project Tiger campaign, the population of tigers in India is in a comfortable position.Tiger is a wild animal which has been declared as the national animal of India by the Indian government. It is considered as the cruelest wild animal to which everyone has fear of. It is a very strong animal which can jump to the long distance. It looks very calm however very clever and can suddenly grab its prey from the long distance. It becomes very fond of blood and flesh of other wild animals such cow, deer, goat, dog, rabbit, (sometimes human beings according to the chance), etc. Tigers are called as lord of Jungle as they symbolize the wildlife wealth of the country. This is an animal having the combination of strength, grace, enormous power and agility which is the big reasons of its respect and high esteem. It is estimated that almost half of the total population of tigers are living in India. However, in the last few decades, the population of tiger in India was decreasing to a extent. The Project Tiger was launched by the government of India in 1973 in order to protect the existence of this royal animal in the country.
There are almost eight races of the tiger and the Indian race named as Royal Bengal Tiger is found in almost all over the country (except north-western region). Few years after the launch of Project Tiger, it was seen a marked increase in the tiger population in India. According to the census of 1993, the total number of tiger in the country was almost 3,750. Around 23 tiger reserves (covering an area of 33,406 sq. km) have been made under the campaign of Project Tiger throughout the country.
Tiger is a very violent wild animal. It has been declared by the Indian government as the national animal of India. It is considered as the strongest, powerful and most beautiful animal on this planet. It lives in a dense forest however sometimes comes to the villages and other residential places in the search of food or deforestation. Siberian Tigers are generally used to live in cold places however Royal Bengal Tigers in the forest near river that?s why they know well to swim. Few decades ago, tigers were hunted by the people to a great extent for fulfilling various purposes including illegal business of its body parts like skin, bones, teeth, nail, etc. It resulted in the massive decrease in the population of tigers all over India. Tigers are also found in other countries like Bangladesh, Cambodia, Thailand, Laos, China, Indonesia, Myanmar, Nepal, Malaysia, Russia, Vietnam, Bhutan, etc.
Tiger is a carnivorous animal which hunts in the night however sleeps for day. Tiger has a strong and powerful body using which it can jump up to the high length (almost 7 ft) and run up for long distance (almost 85 km/h). Black stripes on their blue, white or orange body make them really attractive and beautiful. It has naturally strong jaws, teeth and sharp claws in order to grasp its prey from long distance. It is considered as its long tail helps to maintain balance while hunting the prey. A tiger can be around 13 feet in length and 150 kg in weight. Tigers can be recognized by their unique pattern of stripes on the upper body.
Tiger as a National Animal
Tiger was selected as the National animal of India by the government because of its power, strength, and agility. It was selected as so also because of its nice names such as king of Jungle and Royal Bengal Tiger.
What is Project Tiger
Project Tiger is a campaign run by the government of India in order to maintain the population of tiger in country. It was established in 1973 in order to save tigers from the extreme threat of extinction. This project was made to focus on the preservation of remaining tigers all over the country as well as increase their number through the breeding of species. Around 23 tiger reserves have been made throughout the country for providing the safety and natural environment to them. It was seen a marked improvement in the tiger population by 1993 in the country. However despite the increase in population, the population of tigers in the country is still not satisfactory compared to the effort and money put in the project.

At the turn of the 20th century, according to sources, India had an estimated 40,000 tigers in the wild. In 2002, based on pug mark census, this number was 3,642. As per the monitoring exercise by Wildlife Institute of India in association with National Tiger Conservation Authority (NTCA), Government of India using camera traps, in 2008 we were left with only 1,411 tigers. This number is so small that they will be gone soon if we don’t wake up to the crisis.
Save Tigers
With just 1411 tigers left in India as per the last count, the government is worried on how to save the national animal. And thus from cellular phone companies to potato chip manufacturers, every other big brand is being roped in to promote the cause.- a cause that is one of the prime concerns of the nation right now.
But why do we save the tigers? This articles talks about the reason to behind the worldwide movement to save the big cats. In simple words this piece reasons out why you and me, the common man should be interested in saving the tigers. Not only is the tiger a beautiful animal but it is also the indicator of the forest’s health.
Saving the tiger means we save the forest since the tiger cannot live in places where trees have vanished and in turn secure food and water for all. If we make sure tigers live, we will have to make sure that deer, antelope and all other animals that the tiger eats or its prey base live. To make sure that these herbivores live, we must make sure that all the trees, grass and other plants that these prey animals need for food are protected. In short, in this way the whole forest gets saved! Saving the tiger means indirectly saving the forests and in turn saving the environment that is reeling under global warming due to massive deforestation.
Felling trees takes away the precious soil, leaving behind a wasteland. The soil jams up our lakes and dams, reducing their ability to store water. By destroying the tiger’s home, we not only harm tigers, but also ourselves. The tiger thus becomes the symbol for the protection of all species on our earth since it is at the top of the food-chain. This is why we sometimes call the tiger, an apex predator and an indicator of our ecosystem’s health. In short, saving the tiger means saving the earth. Save tigers, save our earth!
Save the Tigers
What you can do to save the tiger?
The tiger is not just a charismatic species. It’s not just a wild animal living in some forest either. The tiger is a unique animal which plays a pivotal role in the health and diversity of an ecosystem. It is a top predator and is at the apex of the food chain and keeps the population of wild ungulates in check, thereby maintaining the balance between prey herbivores and the vegetation upon which they feed. Therefore the presence of tigers in the forest is an indicator of the well being of the ecosystem. The extinction of this top predator is an indication that its ecosystem is not sufficiently protected, and neither would it exist for long thereafter.
If the tigers go extinct, the entire system would collapse. For e.g. when the Dodos went extinct in Mauritius, one species of Acacia tree stopped regenerating completely. So when a species goes extinct, it leaves behind a scar, which affects the entire ecosystem. Another reason why we need to save the tiger is that our forests are water catchment areas.
When we protect one tiger, we protect about a 100 sq. km of area and thus save other species living in its habitat. Therefore, it’s not just about saving a beautiful animal. It is about making sure that we live a little longer as the forests are known to provide ecological services like clean air, water, pollination, temperature regulation etc. This way, our planet can still be home to our children.

SAVE TIGERS !!!!!
Yet another helpless animal species has fallen prey to man’s greed. The tiger population depletion at an alarming rate is a real concern. According to a recent survey, one tiger is being poached every day. If the present state of affairs is allowed to continue, the next generation will not get to see the majestic animal even in the zoo.
Tigers are at the top of the food chain. They are considered as the indicator of the health of the eco system. They are found in a wide range of habitats, from the evergreen and monsoon forests to the mixed coniferous - deciduous woodlands and the mangrove swamps of the Sundarbans, shared by India and Bangladesh.
In order to save this precious species of big cats, Project Tiger a wildlife conservation project was launched in India in 1972 to protect the Tigers. Launched on April 1, 1973 the project has become one of the most successful wild life conservation projects. The project aims at increasing Tiger population in various bio - geographical regions throughout India. The main achievements of this project are commendable recovery of the habitat which has led to increase in the tiger population in the reserve areas, from a mere 268 in 7 reserves in 1972 to above one thousand in 28 reserves in 2006. Owing to the project, the number of tigers has improved to 2,226 as per the latest census report released on 20 January 2015.
However, in order to save the rare cat from extinction, it is just a humble beginning. People, the Government, and the Save Tiger Activists further need to act concertedly to ensure tiger population further proliferate and prosper. The Save Tiger Activists in collaboration with Government should make a task force to save the tigers by keeping round the clock watch on tiger reserves and habitats.

never be able to see this gorgeous animal after about 10-15 years really scares me a lot.Its one of the most beautiful and majestic animal in the worldI know you guys might be thinking that although you feel a lot for the cause you dont know what to do or dont know how to go about it. Well, even i used to think the same thing always but if you have the will to do something for a cause, you will find out ways and do it.I feel in an extremely strong way for this wonderful cause and was finding ways to do
something. Well for starters you can “SPREAD THE MESSAGE”. All my friends who will read this blog can help by spreading this thought to as many people as you can. It wont take you more then 5 minutes to do it but will go a long way in helping to save the animal. Please its a sincere request from me. Also if you dont mind spending about 3 rupees, you can sms TIGER to 56388 or visit NDTV.COM and sign the online petition to save the tiger. It wont take much of your time to do this.
I dont know how many people i will be able to reach or how many will take this
seriously. Some may even laugh at me or feel that “how can my message make any difference”.But it will. Even if you feel that your message wont make any difference but the least you can do is TRY. Its our last chance or else we may lose this wonderful, exotic animal forever.

~~At the turn of the 20th century, it is estimated that India probably had many thousands of tigers in the wild.
The Wildlife Institute of India (WII) and the National Tiger Conservation Authority (NTCA), Government of India, have been conducting tiger estimation surveys in partnership with NGOs. WWF-India was the key NGO partner of the WII and NTCA in conducting the comprehensive country-wide tiger estimation exercise in 2010-11, which revealed a mean tiger population estimate of 1,706.
Based on a census using the pug mark technique, the number of tigers in 2002 stood at 3,642. As per the 2008 tiger estimation exercise conducted by WII in association with the NTCA using camera traps, there were only 1,411 tigers left in the wild in India.

Tiger is a national animal which belongs to the cat family. Scientific name of tiger is Panthera tigris. It is known as the largest animal in the cat family. It is found in various colors such as orange, white and blue having black stripes. Each and every tiger has different black stripes on their body. They may be different outside however their underside of abdomen becomes white. Bengal Tigers were originated in Siberia however they migrated to south because of the colder climate. Now, the natural heritage of the Royal Bengal Tiger is India. Bengal Tigers can be 7 to 10 feet long and 350 to 550 lbs weight.
They vary in size and weight depending on the subspecies and places they found. Siberian tigers are considered as the largest tigers. Females are considered to be little smaller than the males. Few decades ago, tigers were endangering continuously however because of an Indian campaign “Project Tiger”, the condition of tigers in India is in control. Earlier they were hunted very heavily by the man for the purposes like sports, traditional medical products, etc. ‘Project Tiger’ was initiated by the government of India in April 1973 in order to get control over their number. The main threats to the tiger’s life are deforestation means habitat loss and population fragmentation.

When it comes to animals, everyone has its attention focused our National Animal and the most magnificent and charismatic one- The Tiger.
Apart from being the national animal, the tiger continues to be the pride of India, but on the contrary, instead of saving the tiger, people have taken the most out of it, the life of the tiger itself.
The tigers in India have been declared as an endangered species. Many projects are undertaken and many acts have been passed in the protection of the tiger. Project Tiger was launched in India under the governance of PM Indira Gandhi in 1973 and now we have projects like WWF Save Tigers. Since then there are many organizations that work selflessly to save tigers.

Whenever you see anyone looking for tigers to hunt, you should immediately call the cops. While you try and quit poaching, make sure that you do not motivate poachers by purchasing competition skinned baggage, footwear and like products.
It?s been found that our jungles are inclined away and that could be a significant cause why creatures like tigers are disappearing. Today, tigers don?t have a proper ecosystem to develop and generate.
So, protecting jungles is the next phase. It is very impossible to plant a forest but yes you can plant many trees. Again, make attention about the same to teach atmosphere knowledge in people.

? ?A tiger is very strong and it can run at 40 kmph. Tiger is an animal of "Cat" family. That is why tigers have whiskers above their mouths. There are beautiful black?stripes on the skin of tigers. They are yellow in color.?Tigers are heavy and could be upto 250 kilos also. Female tigers are lighter.?Tigers are preserved in many?zoos and national parks of India.
? ?I like tigers. They look so royal.?When someone is ferocious or performing good, we call him or her a tiger. It is an honor.?Tigers are our pride. We need to save tigers.?Let us contribute positively to project tiger.

Today, tigers are endangered, and their extinction would demonstrate an unprotected ecosystem that would also not exist for a long time after that. So, the question now lies, ?What would happen if tigers suffer extinction?? Let?s take the example of Dodos, a species that suffered extinction in Mauritius. When that happened, a species of the Acacia trees stopped regenerating entirely. This means that when a specific species suffer the fate of extinction, it does not do so without leaving behind a scar, thereby affecting the ecosystem in its entirety. This is another compelling reason to save tigers from going extinct. Below are astonishing facts.
Saving tigers has become the necessity of the hour if we want to protect wildlife, of which a tiger is a?big symbol.
In the past century, the tiger population has gone?down by 97 percent.
Project save tiger?was an effort to restore the safe environments of tigers which are numbered at around 3000 currently.
The?Jim Corbett National park?where this project was introduced is the most significant tiger reserve in India focused on preserving the tiger.
The objective of that project was to?increase the?number?of tigers that presently exist.
Historically?hunting tiger was seen as a thing of pride and bravery. Even now many old palaces seem to boat pictures of a tiger hunt and sometimes even display the tiger skin. Due to laws against hunting many instances of tiger hunting has come down.
Tiger has been declared the?national animal of?India?to so that even one instance of tiger poaching or hunting will be seen as an unpatriotic act and the punishment is severe.
Save tiger has a special place of importance for India as a land of Tigers and we must be committed to it. It is not just about protecting a beautiful animal. We should contribute to saving the lives of tigers so that we can also live just a little longer, thanks to the ecological services provided by forests such as clean air, temperature regulation, and water.

Based on a census using the pug mark technique, the number of tigers in 2002 stood at 3,642. As per the 2014 tiger estimation exercise conducted by WII in association with the NTCA using camera traps, there were only 2,226 tigers left in the wild in India.
The tiger is not just a charismatic species or just another wild animal living in some far away forest.
The tiger is a unique animal which plays a pivotal role in the health and diversity of an ecosystem. It is a top predator which is at the apex of the food chain and keeps the population of wild ungulates in check, thereby maintaining the balance between prey herbivores and the vegetation upon which they feed. Therefore, the presence of tigers in the forest is an indicator of the well being of the ecosystem.
Another reason why we need to save the tiger is that our forests are water catchment areas.?
Therefore, it?s not just about saving a beautiful animal. It is about making sure that we live a little longer as the forests are known to provide ecological services like clean air, water, pollination, temperature regulation etc.

Zoos, sanctuaries and responsible, knowledgeable and caring private owners are rapidly becoming the last havens to preserve ever dwindling species of animals.
If we cannot save the tiger, how do we expect to save ourselves?

These illegal activities have led to a decrease in the tiger population on earth. It is time for reforms in our actions. We must all work towards conserving this endangered service, as it will take a lot of time. We have lost a significant share of tigers from our ecosystem, and as of now, only 3900 species of tigers remain in the wild. That is a reason to worry because if this trend continues, we might lose all the tigers from the face of the earth. We need to act responsibly and save tigers from the brink of extinction. Extinction will lead to disruption of the global ecosystem and can have disastrous effects on wildlife.

Each tiger has different types of stripes on its body. The colour of these stripes is normally black and light brown but blue and white colour is also seen in some other species. The species found in India is Panthera tigris.
At the same time, tigers of different countries have been kept in some birdhouses like Nandankanan (Odisha). Generally, white tigers are not seen anywhere in India but some white tigers are found in the Odisha state of India. The tiger is well versed in many qualities, due to which it can become a threat not only to animals but also to humans.
The government has made many efforts for this.

The first thing what we can do is create awareness among people. And, this program is even more essential when the focus is to preserve the tigers. We can increase the attention to ?Save Tigers? by creating leaflets, ads, advertising the cause on internet websites and the like.? The more you propagate the idea about saving tigers, the more persons you will adhere to the cause. Developing attention is incredibly important for all public causes.
Secondly, to preserve the tigers we must stop the poaching. Even when the government has banned the selling of tiger?s skin and bodies, poaching, however, is still prevalent. It?s very important to stop this unlawful act. While you quit poaching, make sure that you do not motivate poachers by purchasing competition skinned baggage, footwear and like products.

To save tigers, we need to protect the forest habitats across Asia where they live. By saving biologically diverse places, we allow tigers to roam and preserve the many other endangered species that live there. As a large predator, the tiger plays a key role in maintaining healthy ecosystems.
Forests are being cut down for various purposes like paper, palm, housing, furniture, firewood. Deforestation has been the cause of a truly massive number of species extinction in modern times and historical times. It always lacks the large biodiversity of its previous state. With the disappearance of the original forest, many species go extinct, and many that don’t lose a great deal of their genetic diversity and variation.Consumers demand for tiger body parts poses the largest threat to the tiger. Tigers are being illegally hunted for their skin, bones, teeth, nails, etc. which are highly valuable for medicinal use and remedies. In the past 10 years over 1000 tigers are hunted to meet the consumer demand. Chinese people use tiger skin and other body parts for medicinal use and black magic with the disappearance of the original forest, many species go extinct, and many that don’t lose a great deal of their genetic diversity and variation.
