Difference between propanol and isopropanol.
Dear student,
Propanol is an alcohol having hydroxy (-OH) functional group.
The position of (-OH) may be at position -1 or position-2 as :
But in the case of isopropanol, the position of (-OH) functional group is fixed and it is at 2 carbon.
The structure of isopropanol as :
So, the basic difference between 2 is isopropanol has fixed position of the hydroxy group and in case of propanol it may be 1-propanol or isopropanol.
So, 2-propanol and isopropanol are the same structures.
