explain land degradation in 5 points

Land degradation is a gradual wearing down or wasting of land or soil.
The various causes of land degradation is 

1. Deforestation-cutting down trees
2. Mining-leaves deep scars and traces of over-burdening
3. Dumping of industrial effluents
4. Over grazing
5. Over irrigation-increases the salts and alkaline deposits in the soil

In hilly area:

• terrace farming
• ploughing in contour lines
• planting trees on sloped to prevent land erosion

In desert area:

• stabilizing sand dunes
•  management of grazing
