Explain why you can see your reflection on a spoon, but not on a piece of cloth?
If rays from the lamp fall onto the surface of the mirror they all go the same direction corresponding to the "incidence angle = reflectance angle".
When the rays fall onto the rough cloth, every little piece of cloth scatters light in all directions like, for instance, dust does. You cannot see through dust mainly because it also scatters light in all directions.
The same thing is happening when you look at matte glass in comparison to glossy one. Matte glass is artificially roughed to scatter light and to prevent seeing people in the bathroom even though it's still a glass, i.e. silicium oxide. ? · 8 years ago
