Causes for the high birth rate in India-
  • Early marriages-In India in many rural and backward areas girls and boys are married early .This leads to larger number of child birth.
  • Illiteracy-Many people in India are still illiterate and tradition-ridden as such they don't feel the urge of checking the growth of children.
  • Poverty-In India in poorer families children are seen as working hands so that they contribute to family's income .
  • Religious beliefs -Due to social conditioning and religious beliefs the preference of male child is still prevalent in our country .This leads to growth of birth rate.

1. JOINT FAMILY SYSTEM:India is mainly an agricultural country.The social structure is dominated by the joint family system.An additional child born causes no immediate hardship to the parents.

2. Poverty:Another factor to the rising birth rate is poverty of the people.Poor people have to spend little on the upbringing of their children.Besides,the children supplement the family income by engaging themselves in some odd jobs at an early age.

3. Agricultural Occupation:India is an agricultural country.Even children get some sort of work in agriculture.Thus they do not prove to be burden on the family.So rural population in the India has the tendency to have large families.
