According to the Newton's law of gravitation , the force of gravitation between two point masses in the universe is directly proportional to the product of the masses and inversely proportional to the square of the distance between them .
So mathematically ,
$$\begin{gathered} F\propto m_1{m}_2 \\ F\propto \frac{1}{r^2} \\ F\propto \frac{m_1{m}_2}{r^2} \\ \Rightarrow F=\frac{G{m}_1{m}_2}{r^2} \end{gathered}$$
