How do humans harm the environment by modifying it?
Humans harm the environment by modifying it if they harm the ecological balance. Different parts of the environment are in balance with each other. For example, the number of trees in forests determine the number of herbivores which depends the number of carnivores. If humans cut an excessive number of trees, that destroys the ecological balance of the forest and disrupts the food chain. Similarly, excessive deforestation can lead to greater soil erosion as trees are necessary to hold the soil together.
