(ii) An alkene 'A' contains three C-C, eight C-H σ -bonds and one C-C π - bond. 'A' on ozonolysis gives two moles of an aldehyde of molar mass 44. Write the structure and IUPAC name of 'A'. Write the equation of its ozonolysis.

Dear Student,

Since the aldehyde has 44 amu, it has to be Ethanal ( C2H4O).
Molar mass of Ethanal = 2 x C + 4 x H + O = 12 x 2 + 4 + 16 = 24 + 4 + 16 = 44 amu

Since two moles of ethanal are formed, it has to be formed from an alkene containing 4 carbon groups.
Thus, it is formed from 2-Butene.
Thus, A is 2-Butene.

Hope it helps.
