In this type of Questions  how to determine the size when both charge and periodic size is to be considered ? Explain the answer

Pick the correct order with reference to size.

A )     C a 2 +   <   K +   <   A r   <   S 2 -   <   C l -                                       B )     C a 2 +   <   K +   <   A r   <   C l -   <   S 2 - C )     C a 2 + <   A r   <   K +   <   C l -     <   S 2 -                                       D )       A r   <   C a 2 +   <   K +   <   C l -   <   S 2 -

Dear Student,

Correct order : Ca2+ < K+ < Ar< Cl-< S2-

Reason: With the increase in positive charge nuclear effect increases which causes shrinkage of size of element. Greater the positive charge on the element smaller will be the size of element. So size of Ca2+ will be smaller than K+ ( Ist group element.) and as negative charge increases on the element then its size increases.
