Is this both are correct

Solution:

"Rahul slept late, yet he made it to school on time." is a compound sentence.

"The big dog barked whenever I knocked on the door." is a complex sentence (and not a simple sentence).

A simple sentence has a subject and only one verb.
A compound sentence is formed when two clauses of a sentence are joined by a coordinating conjunction (and, but, so, or, yet, for, nor).
A complex sentence is formed when you join a main clause and a subordinate (dependent) clause with a subordinating conjunction (after, although, as, because, if, since, unless, while, when, whenever).
