LIST of reasons that why our environment is degrading? its urgent

Hi Aadhya,

Please find below the solution to the asked query:

HUMAN RESOURCE IMPACT ON DEGRADATION OF ENVIRONMENT

  • People are a country’s greatest resource. It is people with their demands and abilities that turn them into resources. Hence ‘human resource’ is the ultimate resource. Healthy, educated and motivated people develop resources as per their requirements.
  • Human resources are not equally distributed over the world. They differ in their educational levels, age and sex.
  • The way in which people are spread across the world is known as ‘the pattern of population distribution’. South and South East Asia, Europe and North Eastern North America are densely populated. High latitude areas, tropical deserts, high mountains and areas of equatorial forests are sparsely populated.
Factors affecting population distribution:
  1. Geographical factors
  2. Social, cultural and economic factors
Geographical factors:
  1. Topography:
People always prefer plains to mountains and plateaus because they are suitable for farming, manufacture, etc. Hence the Gangetic plains are the most densely populated areas of the world where mountains like Andes, Alps and Himalayas have low population.
  1. Climate:
People always prefer to live in a climate which is neither extremely hot nor extremely cold. So people do not live in Sahara desert or Polar Regions.
  1. Soil:
Fertile soils are suitable for agriculture.  Fertile plains such as Ganga and Brahmaputra in India, Hwang-He, and Chang Jiang in China and the Nile in Egypt are largely populated.
  1. Water:
People prefer to live in areas where fresh water is easily available. Hence the river valleys of the world are densely populated.
  1. Minerals:
Places with mineral deposits are more populated. Diamond mines of South Africa, extraction of oil in the Middle East led people to settle in these areas.
Social, cultural and economic factors:
  1. Social:
Places where housing, education and health facilities are largely available are highly populated. Eg. Pune
  1. Cultural:
People prefer to settle down in places which are religiously and culturally significant. Eg. Varanasi, Vatican City.
  1. Economic:
People largely settle in industrial areas because they provide employment opportunities. Eg., Osaka in Japan, Mumbai in India.

Conclusion
  • More than 90 per cent of the world’s population lives in about 10 per cent of the land surface. The distribution of population in the world is extremely uneven.
  • Thus the places where people live are highly prone to faster environmental depletion and resources would be scarce. This is also because of the uneven use of resources that are spread around the world and even at many places today, the resources are unexplored.
