Please answer question no 13

Q. 13.   State clearly how an unpolarised light linearly polarised, when passed through a polaroid .

(i)  Unpolarised light of intensity I0 is incident on a polaroid P1 which is kept near polaroid P2 whose pass axis is parallel to that of P1. How will the intensities of light, I1 and I2, transmitted by the polaroids P1 and P2 respectively, change on rotating P1 without disturbing P2 ?

(ii)  Write the relation between the intensities I1 and I2 .

Dear Student
Kindly find the answer of your  asked query.

when unpolarised light passes  through the polarizer then only those virations of the electric field  passes through the polarizer which are parallel to the axis  of the polarizer. And the restriction of  the vibration of the electric field in one particular dirrection is know as the polarization of the light hence light becomes polarized.
When unpolarized light incident on the polarizer  then,  intensity of light  is given bby:I1=I02intensity of light after passing through the polarizer is given byI2=I1cos2θwhere θ is the angle betwee the two polarizers.when they are parallel then I2=I1and intensity decreases when angle between themm increases and finally becomes zero when angle between them is 90 degree.
