role of one in rational numbers

Dear Student,

For rational numbers, 1 is the multiplicative identity - multiplying any number by 1 gives the number itself, and multiplying 1 by any number gives the number itself. Thus, for any rational number 'a', a × 1 = 1 × a = a.
