Straight chain of glucose is in dynamic equilibrium with the cyclic chain or pyranose ring which is a six membered cyclic structure. The attack of lone pair of hydroxyl group of the fifth carbon of glucose linear structure attacks the aldehydic carbon and forms pyran ring. The reaction is given below:-
