The moderates were the early political leaders of Indian National Congress who adopted the method of pacification, petitioning. The important moderate leaders were Surendranath Banerjee, Gopal Krishna Gokhale, Motilal Nehru.

Extremists were the people who took to agitation and violent protests. The important extremist leaders were  Lala lajpat Rai, Bal Gangadhar Tilak and Bipin Chandra Pal.

Revolutionaries were similar to that of extremists, but they believed in violence like bombing, shooting for achieving their demands. Some of the Revolutionaries were, V.D Sarvakar, Bhagat Singh etc.
