What are the limitations of statistics

Solution:
Limitations of statistics can be understood by the following points.
1. Ignores the qualitative aspect: Statistics only studies and is confined only to the facts or information that can be expressed in numerical terms or which are quantifiable. It ignores the qualitative aspect like honesty, wisdom, patriotism. It only studies facts and figures.

2. It does not deal with individual terms: Statistics only requires the study of aggregate data which is of quantitative nature. It has nothing to do with any particular unit. For example, the expenditure of Mohan is Rs. 3000 per month, it doesn't have any relevance as it is a individual figure but if there would be given the expenditure of other persons too. Then the whole would be eligible.

3. Homogeneity of data: It is essential for the statistics that the information should be of same nature so as to compare it. For example: Data related to collection of food grains can not be compared with the collection of cloth because both are measured in different quantities and but can be compared if value is taken into consideration.

4. Misuse and Distrust: Statistical information is widely available so it is possible that it can be misused. Also it may also prove true what is actually not true or fake. The statistical data might be fake or may provide false information.

5.  Only experts can use the statistical information: A statistical data can only be understood by the experts who have knowledge about the statistical methods or techniques. Those who do not know about statistical methods can not make a sensible use of the data.

6. Too  many methods: There are many methods which can apply to study the statistical data so it is very confusing to apply what method to get the result.
