1. The substances which taste sour are known as acids .Acids turn colour of blue litmus to red.e.g. - Vinegar, lime juice etc.
2. The substances which taste bitter are known as bases. Bases turn colour of red litmus to blue. e.g. - soap, baking soda etc.
