what is a perinuclear space ?

Dear Student,
The nuclear membrane consists of two lipid bilayers - inner membrane and outer membrane. The space between the nuclear membranes is called perinuclear space. As the nuclear membrane itself surround the nucleus, the perinuclear space also surrounds the nucleus. This space is usually 20-40 nm in size. The space is used as a separation of the nucleus from the surrounding cytoplasm.
