what is the difference between electrochemical and photoelectric cells?

Dear Student,
1.Electrochemical cells produce electrical energy because of the chemical reactions taking place inside the cell. This type of cell produces electrical energy because of the spontaneous  redox electrolytic reactions taking place inside the cell.
Phtoelectric cell produce electrical energy by the release of electron from the semiconductor surface  because of the incident photons.
2. In electrochemical cell two electrodes are kept at a distance with an electrolyte
while in photoelectric cell electrodes are kept at a distance seperated by a semi-conductor.substance.
3. Electrochemical cells convert chemical energy to electrical energy while photoelectric cells convert solar energy (photons) to electrical energy.
Regards!
