What is the meaning of tranverse equivalent of a longitudinal wave?

Transverse equivalent of longitudinal wave is simply the analogous of transverse wave, where the compression of longitudinal wave is analogous to crest of transverse wave and rarefaction is analogous to trough of transverse wave. The following figure will elaborate it in a better manner.
