What's the difference between having influence over someone and having influence with someone?

Dear Student,

'Influence over' someone means that a particular person or thing is able to affect someone.
'Influencing with' something or someone means to use a particular person or thing to affect someone or something.
Eg: She has an influence over me.
Eg: You can exercise influence with your power.

Regards,

Emotion has a substantial influence on the cognitive processes in humans, including perception, attention, learning, memory, reasoning, and problem solving. Emotion has a particularly strong influence on attention, especially modulating the selectivity of attention as well as motivating action and behavior.

Emotions matter. Happiness, sadness, anxiety and anger all color our days and have a huge impact on how we feel about our lives.
But emotion reaches beyond the realm of feeling and influences people in ways far less obvious than might be expected. In this realm of "embodied cognition," social scientists are finding that the body influences the mind and the mind influences the body. Even the words people use to describe an experience have physical consequences.
