Why do polar bears have white colour accept of camouflage and catching prey as we know that white colour does not absorb sunlight?

Dear Student,

The fur colour of the polar bear though appears white, it is not white but each hair is a transparent hollow tube. Each hollow hair reflects the light and they appear to be white. These hairs of the fur traps sunlight which help them to maintain their body temperature in cold atmosphere. The furs are oily and water repellent. For this reason the hairs don’t get wet and become free of water or snow while shaking off.
