Why does AIDS virus infection shatter the immunity of the victim ?

Dear Student,

AIDS (Acquired Immuno Deficiency Syndrome) is caused by the Human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) via sexual or blood-blood contact. After entering the human body, the HIV virus attacks and enters macrophages. Inside the macrophages, the RNA of the virus replicates with the help of enzyme reverse transcriptase and gives rise to viral DNA. Then, this virus inserts its viral DNA into the DNA of the host and start synthesizing virus particles by using host machinery. At the same time, HIV attacks the immune cells of the host and enters into helper T- lymphocytes. It starts replicating and producing viral progeny in these helper T-lymphocytes. These newly formed viruses get released into the blood and attack other healthy helper T-lymphocytes present in the body. This causes a gradual decrease in the number of T-lymphocytes in the body of an infected person and thereby decreasing the immunity of a victim person.

Because they starts destroying helper T cells. When large no. Of these cells get destroyed they do not activate the B lymphocytes and antibidies are not produced.thereby weaking immune system
