Why is carbondioxide a compound

Dear student,

Carbon dioxide is a compound, this can be supported by the following facts-
1)  Its constituents Carbon and oxygen are always present in a fixed ratio of 1:2 (CO2) and a compound is a group of atoms either of similar or dissimilar type.
2) Its properties are different from their constituent elements (carbon and oxygen)
3) Its constituents cannot be separated by simple physical means but require chemical methods and it has fixed boiling and freezing point.
