Why paper burn with yellow flame

Dear Student,

yellow flame occurs  when insufficient supply of oxygen. Its called  luminous flame. In such case the hydrocarbons do not burn completely and the temperature of the flame is lower than that of the blue flame. The yellow flame also leaves behind a black residue.
