Why should fertilisers be applied in proper dose and at proper time?

Fertilisers should be applied in a proper dosage and at proper time because excessive use of these pose harm to the crops as well as environment. They are are rich in nitrogen which may cause algal growth. Growth of algae affects aquatic life.
Chemical fertilizers contain large amount of toxic substance which can affect human health .
